Broxbourne Joint Action Group wins award...

At this year’s Hertfordshire Constabulary Annual Award Ceremony held on 17 October, the Broxbourne Joint Action Group (BJAG) was named the winner of ‘The Chief Constable’s Problem Solving Award’.

The award recognises the work done by the BJAG to identify, analyse and intervene in persistent anti-social behaviour issues which were being caused in the area and impacted the wider community through racism, criminal damage and dangerous behaviour.

The BJAG is a multi-agency of which the Local Authority, representatives from Youth Connections, the Community Safety Team, the Registered Social Landlords (RSL), Parkguard and the Safer Neighbourhood Team (SNT) are partners.

The group’s shared actions involved proactive patrolling, designing out unused aspects of the local area such as walls and bushes, removing some street furniture, as well as increasing CCTV and lighting, minimising the attraction of the area to youths and also allowing officers to positively identify youths involved in anti-social behaviour.

Councillor Tim Hutchings, Cabinet Member for Public and Environmental Protection said: “We take the safety and wellbeing of our Community very seriously, and couldn’t be prouder to receive this award in recognition of that. Broxbourne’s Joint Action Group has done an exceptional job of making the area safer and more enjoyable for everyone and will continue to monitor the area to ensure that the current standard is maintained.”

Following the strategic implementation of practices designed to tackle the issues in the area, the SNT and the other members of the BJAG conducted a visual audit which highlighted the team’s exceptional efforts and ability to monitor and continually adjust imposed interventions as required.

The joint partnership has led to a significant reduction of anti-social behaviour in the area, which has improved the lives of those working and living locally.
