Food Safety

There are over 800 food businesses in the Borough, all of which are subject to a programme of inspections. The results of inspections are reported to the Food Standards Agency which publishes the results in the National Food Hygiene Rating Scheme.

Complaints about food and food businesses

A food common complaints document is attached on this page to help/assist you to understand better your complaint and the action you can/cannot take, however if you are concerned about a food business, please contact the Environmental Health section. All information will be treated with the strictest confidence.

Food safety alerts

Food alerts are issued by the Food Standards Agency when a manufacturer of a product advises them of a product fault. This is usually due to incorrect labelling, foreign objects or product safety. All food safety alerts are available on the Food Standards Agency website. Food business owners are required to routinely check this website to ensure that defective products are removed from their shelves.

Further information
