What is the Council responsible for?
Annual works programme
The Council manages a number of grass verges across the Borough between February and November inclusive, weather permitting. These verges are managed using ride on cylinder and rotary mowers which are designed to distribute clippings evenly across the verge. Where obstacles restrict the use of this type of machinery, strimmers are used. During inclement weather grass cutting may be temporarily suspended, however as soon as is practical grass cutting will commence with the focus being on bringing areas back into specification as soon as practically possible.
Hedges receive a thorough reshaping prune as part of their winter maintenance, completed between November and February. The summer prune focuses on cutting back vegetation restricting footpaths and sightlines and is completed between July and October with hand held hedge cutting equipment. Generally this enables the Council to avoid unnecessarily disturbing nesting birds.
Shrub beds receive a thorough reshaping prune as part of their winter maintenance, completed between November and February. Shrub beds are visited regularly between March and November with the focus being on cutting back vegetation restricting footpaths and sightlines, weeding and litter picking. The Council manages a number of flower beds across the Borough with the spring and summer bedding plants installed around October and June each year respectively.
