Refuse and recycling collection calendars

Christmas and New Year collection dates have changed from those shown on your annual calendar. Please check the table below.

There will be no green waste collections between Monday 24 December 2018 and Friday 4 January 2019. Collections will resume on Monday 7 January 2019.

Waste and Recycling Service Policy incorporating A-Z Recycling Guide

Use the Council's Waste and Recycling Service Policy to make the most of Broxbourne's recycling services. It contains lots of information on your waste and recycling services and contains an A-Z Guide which tells you where you can recycle or dispose of dozens of ordinary household waste items.

The Borough of Broxbourne provides the following refuse and recycling services:

  • Refuse collections - fortnightly for non-recyclable refuse in an 180 litre black wheeled bin

  • Kerbside recycling collections - fortnightly for paper and cardboard, plastics and cans, and glass in three 55 litre kerbside boxes

  • Food waste collections - weekly for food waste in a 23 litre brown kerbside caddy

  • Chargeable green (garden) waste collections - fortnightly for green (garden) waste in a 240 litre green wheeled bin

The Waste and Recycling Service Policy incorporating A-Z Recycling Guide provides information on where Recycling Points and Household Waste Recycling Centres (HWRCs) are located and what can be recycled at these sites. It also includes information on other Council services and helpful service information, including:

  • Missed collections

  • Home composting

Recycling Centres

There are 12 Recycling Points and two Household Waste Recycling Centres (HWRCs) in the Borough of Broxbourne.

Recycling Points

Recycling Points are open 365 days a year and are maintained by Broxbourne Borough Council.

The following items can be recycled at the Council's Recycling Points:

  • Paper and cardboard

  • Plastics and cans

  • Glass

  • Textiles

Recycling Points can be found at the following locations:

  • Council Offices, Bishops' College Offices, Cheshunt

  • Chaucer Way, Hoddesdon

  • Goffs Oak Library

  • Hammondstreet Road Playing Fields

  • Holdbrook Estate, Waltham Cross

  • Jubilee Gardens (Spinning Wheel), High Street, Hoddesdon

  • Marks & Spencer, Brookfield Centre

  • Sainsbury's Brewery Road, Hoddesdon

  • Tesco, Brookfield Centre

  • V&E Club, Goffs Lane

  • Waltham Cross High Street Car Park

  • Windmill Lane Car Park, Cheshunt

If banks are full, please do not leave your recycling on the ground. Instead, please contact the Helpline on 01992 785577 and we will arrange for the banks to be emptied.

Household Waste Recycling Centres (HWRCs)

HWRCs are operated by Hertfordshire County Council and are located in Turnford and Hoddesdon.

Please check opening times before going to the HWRCs as opening times vary.

The following items can be disposed of or recycled at the HWRCs:

  • Surplus household refuse and recycling

  • Batteries

  • DIY waste

  • Fridges and other appliances

  • Metals

  • TVs and computers

  • Tyres

  • Wood

  • Any other bulky items i.e. furniture

  • Any other electrical items
