Hertfordshire’s Hidden Heroines celebrated in Hoddesdon

Extraordinary women’s lives in Hertfordshire are being celebrated at an enlightening exhibition at Lowewood Museum in Hoddesdon.

Hidden Heroines shines a light on the many fascinating, successful and courageous women who were born, lived and worked in the county.

With support from the Heritage Lottery Fund, the exhibition focuses on women who were pioneering, ground breaking and inspiring in some way. It features oral history recordings from local residents, which provide a balance to the better known stories of key male figures of the county.

Until now, many of the inspiring women’s stories have been forgotten.

Alongside original artwork inspired by the project there will be historical artefacts that are having their first time on display at the museum.

Epping Forest District Council partnered with Trestle, a mask and physical theatre company in St Albans, to bring this exhibition to life.

Hidden Heroines will be open from Saturday 13 January to Saturday 28 April at Lowewood Museum in High Street, Hoddesdon, EN11 8BH.
