Lowewood Museum in Hoddesdon has once again been accredited by Visit England as a quality assured visitor attraction.
The Visitor Attraction Quality Scheme is integral to the official tourist board’s strategy in championing quality and excellent customer service in England.
The award for Lowewood Museum recognises the museum’s commitment to providing a safe, welcoming and enjoyable place for all of its visitors. It is reviewed every two years and this is the third consecutive award since 2013.
Visit England assessed the museum in a number of categories, including its online presence, marketing, staff, cleanliness, displays, and retail.
Specific comments in the assessment praised the museum as having “very good activities for children”, “an attractive garden” and “friendly staff”.
Broxbourne Councillor Dee Hart, Portfolio Holder for Leisure and Culture, said: “Lowewood Museum is a very special place of learning, interest and history in the Borough and to have this recognised nationally is wonderful.
“It is a credit to the hardworking team of staff and local volunteers that the museum continues to deliver such excellent exhibitions and workshops.
“A packed programme of activities for families to enjoy and talks from engaging historians, coupled with a rich display of history, clearly impressed assessors. I’d like to encourage everyone to take the time out to visit soon.”
Located in a beautiful Georgian building just a short walk from the historic town’s centre, the museum showcases the history of the Borough of Broxbourne from prehistoric times to the present day.
Visitors can explore the stories of those who have lived and worked in the area, from Royal Academy artist James Ward to the Pulhams of Broxbourne, one of the most important garden design firms of the Victorian era.
Events, exhibitions and gallery trails ensure there is something for everyone to enjoy, and the museum’s beautiful garden space provides the perfect place for a picnic and for activities during the summer.
Lowewood Museum is open to the public Wednesdays – Fridays, 10am – 4pm, and Saturdays, 10am – 5pm. For more information about the museum and upcoming events and exhibitions visit its website at www.broxbourne.gov.uk/lowewoodmuseum or call 01992 445596.
