A10 footbridge project
Connect 2 - The Council's A10 footbridge project is
part of Sustran's successful Big Lottery Fund Bid

The Council would like to
thank Borough residents for the support they have given the
Council's A10 footbridge project which formed part of Sustrans'
successful 'Connect2' Lottery bid. The Council's project was
supported by local schools and the stars from the
2007 Pantomime, 'Snow White' even took time out from
rehearsals to show their support.
As a result of the Connect2 bid winning the televised 'People's
£50 Million' vote on ITV1, the Council's project will now benefit
from a share of the £50 million grant. The Borough Council's
project to build a pedestrian footbridge across the A10 will
provide a safe means of access across the derestricted dual
carriageway carrying in excess of 800 vehicles per hour, including
a larger number of heavy goods vehicles. The bridge will also
open up the east and west links to the countryside, especially the
links to the public right of way network and the Lee Valley
Regional Park. In addition, the bridge will provide a link to
local railway stations, public transport routes, designated cycle
routes and the town centres. A footbridge will also provide a
safer
pedestrian and cycle route to the new St Mary's School site
at Bury Green Farm.
Planning permission for the scheme was granted by the Borough
Council in February 2008 and the scheme needs to be completed by
September 2009 when St Marys School moves to its new site. It
is estimated that the scheme will cost around £1.2
million.
