The role of the Standards Committee was to ensure that councillors maintained the high standard of conduct expected of them. The Committee considered any complaints that members of the Council had breached the Code of Conduct as set out in the Council's constitution, and also had a role to consider the wider ethical behaviour of the Council.
Aside from the elected members appointed to the Standards Committee, several independent members were also appointed to the Standards Committee.
In July 2014 the Council agreed to merge the audit and standards committees. The business of these committees is now considered by the Audit and Standards Committee.
