Community support and volunteering
The Council is coordinating its efforts with other authorities and organisations to help support those that need to self-isolate or are vulnerable.
Who is vulnerable?
Current advice is that those who are at increased risk of severe illness from coronavirus (COVID-19) should take particular care. This group of people includes those who, for example, are:
- aged 70 or older (regardless of medical conditions)
- under 70 with an underlying health condition (i.e. anyone instructed to get a flu jab as an adult each year on medical grounds)
This is not an exhaustive list.
There are some clinical conditions, which put people at a higher risk of severe illness from COVID-19.
Register as vulnerable
If you are in a vulnerable group or are self-isolating and in need of support you can register online with Herts Help. Alternatively, you can contact Herts Help by telephone on 0300 123 4044. Their opening hours are 8am-8pm Monday - Friday and 10am-6pm at weekends. If you are unable to get through, please contact the Council on 01992 785577. Phone lines are busy, but please do keep trying.
Register as a volunteer
The Council is aware that many members of the community want to support those in need. A Hertfordshire-wide initiative #TeamHertsVolunteering has been set up to recruit and coordinate volunteers during this crisis.
Residents, services and community groups who would like to volunteer should visit TeamHerts Volunteering or call Herts Help on 0300 123 4044.
Know someone who needs help?
If you know somebody who needs help, then you can register on their behalf with Herts Help or telephone them on 0300 123 4044. If you cannot get through, contact the Council on 01992 785577 and the Council will ensure they get the help they need.
