Pavement café licences

The Business and Planning Bill makes provision to speed up the process for food establishments to apply for permission to use the pavement space outside their premises. This is a temporary measure to support businesses while they get used to the new social distancing requirements and government guidance.

Businesses can apply to Council for a pavement café licence – the fee is £100.

Licences will be granted for a period of 12 months (not beyond Sept 2021). Businesses will then be able to place the proposed furniture on the highway as outlined in their application. Businesses will need to consider social distancing, not blocking the highway and not causing a nuisance.
