Information on trees and preservation

Before you carry out any work to trees, you must find out whether you have permission to do so.

All trees protected by a Tree Preservation Order (TPO) or those within a conservation area are protected by law. You can use this interactive map to check if either of these conditions apply to the tree or trees you wish to work on.

If the tree falls into either category, you will need to apply to carry out works on a protected tree. Fines can be handed out for carrying out work to a tree without permission.
