Conservation areas

Conservation refers to buildings, streets and areas that are protected because of their landscape, heritage, architectural, archaeological or biodiversity value.

The Council has six conservation areas.

  • Hoddesdon town centre
  • Broxbourne
  • New River
  • Wentworth Cottages
  • Wormley
  • Churchgate

The Council has an approved programme of characterisation appraisals for its conservation areas. The first appraisal was for the Hoddesdon conservation area. You can view it as a PDF file. It will help developers to take account of heritage issues when preparing planning applications.

You can visit the Historic England website for further information on conservation areas.
