Pay by Direct Debit and you have a choice of payment dates - 1st, 15th or 25th of the month over either 10 or 12 instalments. Spreading payment over 12 months reduces the monthly instalment.
If you have not yet opted for Direct Debit, we can arrange for you to pay this way over the telephone so please contact the council tax team on 01992 785504.
Alternatively, you can obtain a form by:
- Downloading the latest Direct Debit instruction from 'Documents' to the right of this page
- Telephoning the council tax team on 01992 785504
- Emailing us via the contact form
Completed Direct Debit instructions may be returned to the Council either in person or by post.
If you do not pay by Direct Debit your council tax is due as per the instalments set out on your bill. If you have not expressed a preference these instalments will be set to fall due on the first of the month over 10 months between April, the beginning of the financial year, and the following January.

When customers call the automated telephone line they will be asked to enter their account number, the amount to be paid and their credit/debit card details. Calls can be made from a landline at the local rate and from mobile phones at the mobile service provider's usual rates. The service is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
Please have your details ready when you call and a pen and paper to take a note of your receipt number.
The Council add a barcode to council tax bills to enable customers to pay at the Post Office, any PayPoint outlet and the Kiosk in the main Borough Offices without a payment card. Simply scan the barcode on the bill and then make payment using the available method.
You may pay using a payment card at the Kiosk in the main Council offices, or at the one stop shops, the Post Office and at any PayPoint outlet.
Please ring the Council's helpline on 01992 785577 to request a payment card. The cards contain your council tax reference number and your name to ensure your payments are correctly allocated to your account. The cards are designed to be kept from year to year but should a new council tax account be set up because you have moved, changed your name or the liable party has changed you will need a new card.
You can pay by cash, cheque or debit card at any Post Office counter, remember to take your council tax payment card or bar-coded bill for reference to your account number.
PayPoint can be found in newsagents, convenience stores, garages and off-licenses, many of which are open outside normal office hours. There is a good choice of PayPoint outlets in the Borough and 19,000 nationwide. To find your local PayPoint or Post Office outlet follow the link to www.allpay.net/outlets.
