Parking on verges and pavements

Verge and pavement parking in the borough is becoming increasingly frustrating for residents. Inconsiderate parking on footways and grass verges causes obstruction to pedestrians particularly to those with special needs and mobility problems, it can also damage the utility piping under the ground and it damages the grass making it look unsightly and costs money to make repairs.

The Council continues to work with residents in efforts to reduce the impact of our congested streets and issue advice notices to owners of vehicles parked on verges and footway, however it does not have any legal ability to issue fixed penalty notices. If you feel the obstruction is serious then please call the police on 101 who can get the vehicle moved immediately and issue a fixed penalty notice to the driver if necessary.
