Overview
The Council elects a Leader from among its members. The Leader of the Council appoints the Cabinet and provides overall strategic and corporate direction for the Council.
The Council publishes the agenda and minutes of all Council meetings. Agendas for each meeting are published at least five days before the meeting, along with the reports to be considered.
Reports containing ‘exempt’ information (for example, details relating to individuals) are not published. Where reports are not available five days before a meeting, they will be made available as soon as reasonably practical.
A record of decisions taken at meetings – the information sheet – is published as soon as possible after each meeting.
You are welcome to attend and observe meetings of the Council. You can take photographs and video recordings at meetings as long as it does not cause disruption. You should, therefore, be aware that you may be photographed or filmed.
Meetings of the Council, the Cabinet and Council committees are filmed and broadcast via the Council’s website. The Chairman will confirm if the meeting is being filmed at the start of the meetings. Therefore, by entering the Council Chamber you are consenting to being filmed and to the possible use of those images and sound recordings for webcasting and training purposes. In terms of retaining the webcast, the Council is a Data Controller under the Data Protection Act and the webcast will be retained in accordance with the Council’s published policy.
