Postal and Proxy Voting Renewals

Postal & Proxy Vote Renewal Requirements

To make sure your voting preferences remain up to date and secure, there are renewal requirements for both postal and proxy votes.

Postal Vote – Renew Every 3 Years

If you vote by post, you must reapply every 3 years to continue receiving your ballot paper by mail.

You can renew your postal vote quickly and easily online. You will need to provide your date of birth and signature when completing the application.

If you do not reapply before your postal vote expires, it will be cancelled. The Council will send you written notice to let you know when your postal vote is due to expire. We recommend renewing as soon as you receive your reminder to avoid any disruption to your voting arrangements.

If your postal vote expires, you would then need to vote in person at your polling station unless you submit a new application in time

Proxy Vote – Refresh Every 5 Years

If you vote by proxy (where someone votes on your behalf), your arrangement must be renewed every 5 years.

You may be required to confirm or resubmit your proxy details

This ensures your chosen proxy is still eligible and able to act for you

If you do not refresh your proxy vote when required, it may lapse.  The Council will send you written notice to let you know when your proxy vote is due to expire

If you’re unsure when your postal or proxy vote expires, please contact the Council.
