What you can do
The Council may be able to assist if you have been asked to leave your home. Before contacting the Council you should talk to your family or friends about staying where you are.
Things you can do to prevent your homelessness:
- Discuss the issues as to why you have been asked to leave and if there is anything that can be resolved through mediation
- If the increased cost of household bills is causing stress on the homeowners, consider contributing to rent, utility bills or food
- Identify any other places where you have a right to live
- Use the online benefits calculator to help you find out what benefits you may be able to claim
- Visit your local Job Centre where you can get help with benefits, finding work and getting other support
- Register with Homefinder UK
After you have done this, if you still need more help and support you can ask the Council for assistance.
