Apply for a pavement café licence

You can apply for pavement café licence using the Council's online form at the bottom of this page. The process should take no longer than 10 working days if no objections are received.

 When you apply you will need to provide:

  • your contact details
  • the address of your premises
  • your public liability insurance certificate (minimum of £10 million)
  • an A4 plan clearly showing the premises and the location of your proposed outdoor seating area (preferably an Ordnance Survey map, 1:1250 or 1:500 scale plan as appropriate)
  • a plan showing the dimensions of the seating area​ and the arrangement of the tables and chairs
  • credit or debit card details to pay the licence fee

Display an advertising notice

You will be sent the Public Notice from either:

  • your MyAccount
  • the Council by email

You will need to print it and display it on your premises for a period of at least five working days from the date you applied for a pavement cafe licence. For example, if you apply today, the five working days will start tomorrow.

Display your licence

If your application is successful you must display your licence on your premises in a location that is easily visible to the public.
