Residents urged to cast their vote in the upcoming elections

On Thursday 6 May, residents across the Borough will have their say on who represents them at the Borough, County and Police and Crime Commissioner Elections.

Many voters have chosen to vote by post or by proxy, but for those who want to cast their vote in person, polling stations will be COVID safe.

COVID-safe procedures will be in place including regular sanitising of surfaces and reduced numbers allowed inside the polling station. Voters can also help protect themselves and others by:

  • Wearing a face covering
  • Bringing their own pen or pencil
  • Sanitising their hands when entering and leaving the polling station
  • Keeping at least two metres apart from those not in your household, particularly if there is a need to queue
  • Using the one-way systems in place

Residents should not attend a polling station if they have symptoms of COVID-19, have received a positive test result, or have been asked to self-isolate by NHS Test and Trace.

There will be a provision in place to apply for an emergency proxy vote until 5pm on the day of the election in the event a voter becomes ill or has to self-isolate. Residents should contact the Council’s election office on 01992 785577.
