Sir Charles Walker KBE MP opened Church House, a new eight-home affordable housing development in Cheshunt.
On Wednesday 9 October, the new scheme delivered by local housing association B3Living was officially opened with a ribbon cutting and plaque unveiling ceremony.
The development, owned by the neighbouring St Mary’s Church, provides local-residents with much needed affordable housing for rent, made up of seven two-bed flats and a one-bed flat.
The two-year project made possible by a grant from Broxbourne Council and Homes England - the government department responsible for funding new affordable homes – saw B3Living restore the Church House building to its former glory.
Steve Woodcock, B3Living Chief Executive said,
There is an urgent need for more affordable housing up and down the country. In England, 8.4 million people are directly affected by the housing crisis – that’s one in seven people.
Here at B3Living we are determined to do everything we can to play our part and tackle the housing crisis in the Broxbourne area where we work.
Working in partnership with Broxbourne Council and St Mary’s Church was the key to success behind the Church House development

I am delighted to see how the Church House redevelopment has turned from an idea into reality and how B3Living has retained the building’s historic character.
It’s not always easy to faithfully restore a listed building – but the end result has more than achieved that, providing much needed affordable housing for the community at the same time.
Broxbourne Councillor Siobhan Monaghan, Cabinet Member for Housing and Community Services said,
This housing scheme is a shining example of what can be achieved when local organisations work together to tackle the lack of affordable housing.
The future of the Church House building is now secure for generations to come – and what better way to do that than providing housing for people who need it most.
B3Living works with like-minded developers and partner organisations in the community to provide people in the Broxbourne area with homes they aspire to live in; over the next seven years the housing association plans to deliver 800 new homes.
