New state-of-the-art NHS mobile COVID vaccination unit comes to Cheshunt

The region’s first, specialist mobile vaccination unit will offer people aged over 18 the chance to get vaccinated in Cheshunt from Monday 10 January.

The state-of-the-art facility will initially be located in the Marks and Spencer car park at the Brookfield Centre, Halfhide Lane, Cheshunt. Up to 400 people per day can get their vaccinations at the unit, with no appointment or GP registration necessary.

Sarah Browne, Director of Nursing and Quality at Hertfordshire Community NHS Trust (HCT), said: “This new mobile facility is aimed at reaching people in areas where there is lower vaccine uptake. Getting to vaccination centres can be a barrier for some people due to mobility issues, lack of access to transport or simply being unfamiliar with the area. Hopefully this offer of vaccination unit in a popular shopping centre car park will encourage more people to come forward and get their first, second or booster jabs, especially at a time when infection rates are rising. If you have had COVID, you must wait at least 28 days after testing positive before having a COVID vaccination.”

The new specialist mobile unit has been provided in partnership with Broxbourne Borough Council, Hertfordshire Community NHS Trust and local Clinical Commissioning Groups. The venture was also made possible with the generous support of Marks and Spencer and Tesco, for the use of the car park.

Councillor Dee Hart, Cabinet Member for Leisure and Health at Broxbourne Borough Council, said: “With Omicron infection rates rising so rapidly it has never been more important than now to get jabbed or boosted. We are doing all we can to help people stay safe and access vaccination sites. This mobile unit will help the Council remove some obstacles for people in areas where vaccination uptake is low. We are grateful for the many volunteers who have come forward to work alongside NHS clinical staff.”

Initially the facility will be providing the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccination for ‘walk-in’ adults aged 18 years and above.

People will find the mobile vaccination facility in the Marks and Spencer car park at the Brookfield Centre, Halfhide Lane, Cheshunt, EN8 0TZ. Walk-in clinics are very popular and people should come wrapped up warm and be prepared to queue.
