Broxbourne Council marks Armed Forces Day 2022

On Monday 20 June at 10am, Broxbourne Council marked Armed Forces Day at a flag-raising ceremony at Bishops’ College in Cheshunt.

The Mayor of Broxbourne, Councillor Paul Seeby, introduced the ceremony and read a statement of the Council’s support for the Armed Forces Covenant.

Councillor Siobhan Monaghan, Cabinet member for Housing and Community, read aloud the Armed Forces Covenant at the ceremony, which was followed by the flag raising by the Mayor.

Broxbourne Council recognises the commitment and sacrifice that the Armed Forces make to protect the country and its people. Whether they are leaving service and looking to settle in the area, are a reservist living in the area, or have any other connection with the Armed Forces, then the Council aims to give support when they need it.

Councillor Paul Seeby, the Mayor of Broxbourne, said:

“Armed Forces Day is an opportunity for the nation to say thank you to our servicemen and women, past and present, for their readiness to serve and protect the UK and its interests, both at home and abroad.

“Today the UK Armed Forces are deployed on over 30 operations in as many countries around the globe. Working together alongside our allies they work to prevent conflict, preserve peace and above all, keep Britain safe.”

Similar flag-raising ceremonies are taking place across the country this week in a nationwide show of support for Britain’s Armed Forces. The UK Armed Forces defend the country and its interests. Every day of the year, they are busy working around the world, promoting peace, delivering aid, providing security and fighting terrorism.

Councillor Siobhan Monaghan said:

“We have raised the flag to recognise and salute the commitment and sacrifices our Armed Forces make to protect our country. The Armed Forces Covenant is a promise to those who serve or who have served in the Armed Forces, and their families, that they will be treated fairly and not be disadvantaged in their day-to-day lives.”
