Residents encouraged to register to vote ahead of Borough election on 4 May

Borough Council elections will take place on Thursday 4 May 2023. For the first time, Photo Identification (ID) is required to vote.

 Accepted forms of ID include a UK or European Economic Area (EEA) passport; a UK or EEA drivers’ licence; and some concessionary travel passes, such as an older person’s bus pass or an Oyster 60+ card. Voters will be able to use expired ID if they are still recognisable from the photo.

Anyone who does not an accepted form of ID can apply for free ID online at voter-authority-certificate.service.gov.uk/ or by downloading and returning a form from the Council’s website.

Residents that are not registered to vote in the Borough can visit www.gov.uk/register-to-vote to register by midnight on Monday 17 April 2023. 

Key dates in this year’s electoral process:

  • Monday 17 April (midnight) – last day to register to vote
  • Tuesday 18 April (5pm) – last day to register to vote by post
  • Tuesday 18 April (5pm) – apply for free voter ID
  • Tuesday 25 April (5pm) – apply to vote by Proxy
  • Thursday 4 May – Polling day (7am-10pm)
