This Girl Can Broxbourne celebrates women’s fitness and empowerment

This Girl Can Broxbourne Festival returned to the Lee Valley White Water Centre

On 22 July 2023, the This Girl Can Broxbourne Festival returned to the Lee Valley White Water Centre, where over a hundred women and girls braved the rain to participate in events. The festival aimed to empower and celebrate girls and women, encouraging them to undertake new water-based activities.

This Girl Can Festival is part of the national This Girl Can campaign, which provides a supportive and welcoming environment for women and girls and allows like-minded people to meet. The event also hosted a range of different activities, including kickboxing, yoga, football, rugby, inflatable fun and more.

Lisa Dickinson, the former ShePaddles Ambassador for British Canoeing said “The festival has been an amazing opportunity to promote paddle sports to women and girls in the Lee Valley area.”

The Festival is part of the build-up to the ICF Canoe Slalom World Championships 2023, which will be held later this summer at the Lee Valley White Water Centre from 19-24 September.

Councillor Dee Hart, Cabinet Member for Leisure and Health, said: “This Girl Can Festival encouraged women of all ages and abilities to try new things and get active. It was a great event that honoured women's empowerment and fitness. It was fantastic to see so many women and girls participating in all the events and hopefully inspiring them to take up new sports.”
