At the annual Council meeting held on Tuesday 13 May 2025, Councillor Corina Gander was elected as new Leader of Broxbourne Borough Council, and Councillor Steve Wortley re-elected as Deputy Leader.
At the meeting, and in one of her first formal duties as Leader, Councillor Gander appointed a new Cabinet.
Councillor Andreas Payne has been appointed the Cabinet Member for Finance, Councillor Dee Hart is the Cabinet Member for Housing and Community, Councillor Paul Mason is the Cabinet Member for Planning, Councillor Jim Clune has been appointed as Cabinet Member for Environment and Community Safety, Councillor Pierce Connolly is the Cabinet Member for Leisure and Culture, and Councillor Steve Wortley, who is also the Deputy Leader of the Council, has been appointed as Cabinet Member for Economic Development and Growth.
In addition to the Cabinet changes, Councillor John Perkins stepped into a new role as Chairman of the Scrutiny Committee, whilst Councillor Peter Chorley has been appointed as Chairman of the Planning and Regulatory Committee. Councillor Mark Mills-Bishop is the new Chairman of the Audit and Standards Committee.

I am delighted to have been elected as Leader of the Council. There are some challenging times ahead and I intend to navigate the Borough’s way through Local Government Reform to secure the best possible outcome for the residents and businesses in Broxbourne.
I look forward to working with officers and colleagues over the coming year.
Councillor Patsy Spears was elected as the new Mayor of Broxbourne and Councillor Sacha Kanatli has become Deputy Mayor.
One of the Mayor’s charities for 2025/26 will be Active in Hope Community Foundation which fosters resilience, mental health and education within Waltham Cross.
