Hertfordshire’s 11 Councils have today launched the first phase of engagement with key strategic partners to help shape proposals for the future of local government in the county.
Stakeholders include the NHS, police, education leaders, major employers and voluntary and community sector groups.
This initial phase will focus on the principles and opportunities of the potential options and gather input from strategic partners on how any future changes could support better local services.
Councillor Corina Gander, Leader of Broxbourne Council said:
Engagement with our strategic partners is crucial to shape early thinking on what the future of local government looks like. Residents and the wider community will have the opportunity to share their views in September, by which time we hope to have a clearer understanding of the best way forward.
My main aim is to ensure that the council of the future has Broxbourne’s residents and businesses firmly at its heart, and I encourage all to take part in this once-in-a-generation opportunity to shape the future of our Borough.
The second phase of engagement, which will be launched in the coming months, will provide residents and wider stakeholders with the opportunity to learn more about the potential options, ask questions, and share their views directly. Details of these engagement opportunities will be shared closer to the time.
Councils will also be organising significant engagement with their workforces during this period.
Final proposals must be submitted to the government on 28 November 2025.
