New affordable homes completed in the heart of Hoddesdon

24 affordable homes have been completed on the former squash club site in Hoddesdon.

The scheme, named Mark Davies Court after a former board member of B3Living, comprises 24 one- and two-bedroom high-quality apartments.

The building was officially opened on Wednesday, 19 November by representatives from housing association B3Living, the Borough of Broxbourne Council, DCH Construction, and family and friends of Mark Davies.

Provided by local social business, B3Living, the 100% affordable development was partly funded by a £620,000 grant from the Borough of Broxbourne Council and £1.14 million from Homes England. Offered at an affordable rent, the 24 new homes will be allocated to local people by the Council according to priority in the housing register.

The scheme is set to welcome almost 70 residents in the coming weeks and will help to address the increasing demand for affordable housing in the Borough.

According to the Office for National Statistics, private rents in Broxbourne rose to an average of £1,635 in September 2025, an annual increase of 12.4% from £1,454 in September 2024. In Hoddesdon alone, there are 286 applicants on the housing register waiting for a one-bedroom property, and 198 for a two-bedroom.

Jon Hayden, B3Living’s Executive Director (Development), who was at the event said:

We’re delighted to have handed over these 24 new homes in the heart of Hoddesdon working in partnership with the Borough of Broxbourne Council.

The Council’s investment and support have helped us build high-quality homes that truly meet local needs.

This scheme will contribute to reducing the number of local people living in temporary accommodation, and it will provide a long-term home for many in the heart of Hoddesdon.

Leader of Broxbourne Borough Council, Councillor Corina Gander said:

B3Living has been an important partner of Broxbourne Council for many years, working in partnership with the Council to provide quality affordable homes for local people.

Broxbourne Council has made a significant investment into the scheme at Mark Davies Court and is therefore delighted to see it ready for local families to move into. These homes will be provided to local residents allowing them to remain in the community they have established as their home.

Mark Davies Court is located in a sought-after area within walking distance of various shops, restaurants, and other local amenities. The building has been named in memory of former B3Living Board member, Mark Davies, who championed affordable housing but sadly passed away in 2019.

Mr Hayden from B3Living added:

Mark was simply the warmest person and a real family man who is missed enormously. We hope that naming these homes in Mark’s memory celebrates the many contributions he made for local people.

Built by DCH Construction, the design of this thoughtfully crafted scheme includes recessed balconies, decorative brickwork, large windows, and deep window reveals.
