New Treasure Map Trail Launches for Explorers in Waltham Cross Town Centre

Following the successful launch of family-friendly Treasure Map Trails in Cheshunt and Hoddesdon, a new and exciting map has launched.

Broxbourne Borough Council, in partnership with Treasure Map Trails, launched the special illustration of Waltham Cross town centre in the form of a treasure map aimed at children aged five to 12 years old. The map offers families a fun and affordable way to discover the town centre, learn about local heritage and uncover hidden details that may otherwise be missed.

Based on the real street layout of Waltham Cross, the fantasy-themed map features recognisable buildings and landmarks to help young explorers navigate their way around the town. Children are encouraged to spot a range of local features, including details from the historic Eleanor Cross, coats of arms and the swans overlooking the High Street, all at a pace suitable for families.

The self-guided trail allows families to explore independently, making it an ideal activity during the school holidays and a great opportunity to spend more time in the town centre.

Deputy Leader, Councillor Steve Wortley, Cabinet Member for Economic Development and Growth said

Waltham Cross has a wealth of history, landmarks and details that many people pass every day without noticing. The Treasure Map Trail gives a fun way to lead the way and explore the town while learning more about our local heritage. We hope it encourages families to spend time together in the town centre and see Waltham Cross in a new way.

Treasure Map Trails are designed to inspire families to explore towns and cities through imaginative adventures, challenging families to discover statues, carvings and other quirky local features that connect them with the area’s history. Each trail covers approximately one square mile and can be completed in a single visit or over multiple trips.

The Waltham Cross Treasure Map Trail is available from Waltham Cross Library and Lowewood Museum from February and is free to collect.
