Accessible, affordable homes under construction in Cheshunt High Street

Local housing provider, B3Living, has started building 36 new accessible homes in Cheshunt.

With grant funding from Broxbourne Council and Homes England, the land-led development marks the joint efforts of the local landlord, the local authority and Homes England to address the increasing demand for affordable housing in the borough.
Offered at an affordable and social rent, the homes are a mix of one- and two-bedroom flats and will welcome up to 100 new residents.

Since its demolition in 2020, the vacant White House site has been generating fly-tipping and concerns about the future of the high street. A local consultation with neighbours was carried out in 2022 to change the design to better accommodate mobility needs and improve privacy.

These new affordable homes will be built with adaptable features including low-level windows, space for future grab rails, lifts, and ability to add level-access shower. One of the two-bedroom apartments will also be fully wheelchair accessible.

Councillor Corina Gander, Leader of Broxbourne Council said:

It is refreshing to see yet another partnership come to light shortly after the completion of the Mark Davies Court properties in Hoddesdon. The Council is fully committed to continue supporting the local community through investment in projects of this nature which are in keeping with its Affordable Housing Strategy. The White House Development in Cheshunt represents yet another step forward in our mission to meet local housing demands.

Councillor Dee Hart, Cabinet Member for Housing and Community said:

This is going to be a very exciting addition to the Borough’s portfolio of affordable housing, and I am confident that once completed, they will serve their purpose as comfortable homes that future tenants can be proud of.

Jon Hayden, B3Living’s s Executive Director (Development) said:

The waiting list for accessible homes in Broxbourne is exceptionally long so we are pleased to be partnering once again with Broxbourne Council and Homes England to build homes local people can actually afford.

We have worked closely with local neighbours to ensure that we are building the best possible homes for the community, so it is great to finally see our plans come to life.

Our aim is to start building 400 new homes by 2027, with 111 of these in the borough which will make a great difference for our community.

Developed by housebuilder Duncan Cameron & Hutchinson Ltd (DCH), construction at the White House is expected to complete in summer 2027. B3Living currently own almost 4000 homes in Broxbourne and have recently completed 24 affordable homes alongside DCH in Mark Davies Court, Hoddesdon.
