Council Introduces New Communication System for Overdue Council Tax Payments

From March, a new communication system will be introduced to alert customers of overdue Council Tax Payments.

Previously, customers who missed a Council Tax payment deadline received reminders only by post. Under the new system, customers will now receive reminders through multiple channels, including text messages, emails, voice messages, and eReminders for those with an online account.

If a Council Tax instalment is missed, customers will receive timely, supportive reminders through SMS, email, and voice messages, helping them stay informed while also quickly resolving missed payments. This approach is designed to encourage early engagement and reduce the need for formal recovery action, with paper letters issued only as a last resort.

The upgraded multi-channel system features a refreshed look and improved functionality for residents, enabling more effective management of overdue payments. It provides residents with clearer payment options and better access to support, while also offering a more environmentally friendly and sustainable approach by reducing reliance on paper communications.

Reminder text messages will always be from “Brox BC” and contain a link from “broxbourne.gov.uk” for customers who wish to click and pay instantly. The exact same domain name is applicable to emails and links contained within it. Customers are advised to always check the origin of emails even if these appear genuine.

The payment link will redirect customers to www.broxbourne.gov.uk/council-tax/pay-council-tax for payment. Customers who wish to pay using their online Council Tax account instead, can still do so, or call 0808 108 0016.

If customers feel suspicious about communications claiming to be from the Council, they are advised not to click on any links and instead call or use the online account, and should also report any suspicious communications to the Shared Anti-Fraud Service by calling 0300 123 4033 or visit www.hertfordshire.gov.uk/SAFS
