Residents living with Parkinson’s will soon be able to access a new specialist exercise programme in Broxbourne, delivered through Broxbourne Borough Council’s long-running Active Herts initiative.

The new Active Herts ‘Parkinson’s Power’ sessions have been developed to support people living with the condition by helping them remain active, confident and socially connected. Each session includes a mix of seated and standing low-impact exercises designed to improve cardiovascular fitness, strength, balance, mobility, coordination and posture, while also supporting mental wellbeing.

As well as the physical benefits, the sessions provide a welcoming space for participants to meet others in the local community who are also living with Parkinson’s, helping to reduce isolation and encourage peer support.

The programme will begin on Friday 6 March 2026 and will run weekly from 2.45 -3.45pm at Studio 1, at The Laura Trott Leisure Centre in Cheshunt. Free parking is available at the centre, although vehicles must register at Reception on arrival. Sessions will be free of charge until 24 April 2026, after which a £5 fee will apply. Carers are welcome to attend free of charge.

To be eligible for the programme, participants must be aged 16 or over, live within the Borough of Broxbourne and currently take part in less than 30 minutes of physical activity per week that raises their breathing rate.

Residents interested in joining the sessions or seeking further information are encouraged to contact Andrew Rix, Broxbourne Borough Council’s Get Active Specialist, on 07506 503316.
