Covid-19: facilities closed in the Borough of Broxbourne

Due to the current health concerns, Broxbourne Council has closed many of its facilities until further notice.

As the number of cases of Coronavirus in the UK continues to grow, Broxbourne Borough Council is working closely with Hertfordshire County Council, Public Health England and partners to respond to the situation. The Council is advising those who are at increased risk of severe illness from Coronavirus be particularly stringent in following social distancing measures and to stay inside. Social distancing measures are steps members of the public should take to reduce the social interaction between people. This will help reduce the transmission of Coronavirus.

The main Council offices at Bishops’ College, the One Stop Shop services in Waltham Cross and Hoddesdon, Cheshunt Park Golf Centre, The Laura Trott Leisure Centre, The John Warner Sports Centre, the Spotlight Theatre, Wormley Community Centre and Lowewood Museum are closed to the public for the foreseeable future. All 40 of the Borough’s play areas have been closed. All memberships to the Council’s centres have been frozen and no Direct Debits will be taken at this time. This decision has been made following Government advice to stay inside, and to protect all residents, including those who are high-risk.

The Council will continue to deliver day-to-day services. Whilst the Council’s key objective is to maintain services, reduced staffing levels may impact the ability to do so. The Council has a responsibility to protect the community (especially those who are vulnerable), to protect staff and to maintain priority services.

Domestic refuse collection, housing benefits advice service and temporary accommodation, housing benefits payments and environmental health emergencies have been prioritised by the Council and staff will be re-deployed as necessary. All waste and recycling collections are taking place as normal.

All Hertfordshire Household Waste Recycling Centres (HWRCs) are now closed until further notice. The safety of residents and staff is very important and the situation will be kept under review based on further government advice regarding social restrictions. Please check Hertfordshire County Council’s (HCC) website for any updates and do not leave any waste outside the gates, as this is classed as fly-tipping and members of the public could be prosecuted. Residents are urged to store and dispose of waste responsibly, and to wash hands thoroughly before and after loading bins and kerbside boxes. The safety of residents and staff is crucial and disinfecting the lids and handles of bins is highly advisable at this time.

This advice is likely to be in place for some weeks and there will be updates available via Broxbourne Council’s social media channels and the website.
