Broxbourne Borough Council welcomed this year's Queen Eleanor Cycle Ride (QECR) to Waltham Cross on Monday 31 August 2026.
Waltham Cross is home to one of only three surviving Queen Eleanor Crosses in the country, making it a fitting and historic stop on the annual ride.
The QECR is a 200-mile sponsored cycle ride that traces the route of the 12 Eleanor Crosses built by Edward I in memory of his wife Eleanor of Castile, who died in Harby, Lincolnshire, in 1290. The route runs from Harby to Westminster Abbey in London.
This year, 34 cyclists and five support crew took part, completing approximately 220 miles over the August Bank Holiday weekend in some of the wettest conditions the ride has experienced.
The ride raised close to £30,000 for the Connection at St Martin-in-the-Fields, a charity that works to end rough sleeping in London.
The Mayor of Broxbourne, Councillor Patsy Spears, joined the riders at the Eleanor Cross for lunch and local businesses kindly donated refreshments on the day.
