The Leader of the Council has issued a statement regarding the County Council's proposal to explore becoming a Council of Sanctuary.
“I have serious concerns about Hertfordshire County Council's decision to explore becoming a Council of Sanctuary at a time when many of its core services are already under immense pressure.
“The County Council faces significant financial challenges and along with many other authorities is struggling to meet growing demand across a range of statutory services.
“Residents consistently raise concerns about access to SEND provision, pressures within adult social care, highways maintenance and other essential local services. These areas should remain the Council's primary focus.
“At a time when every pound of public money is under scrutiny, residents are entitled to ask whether this represents the right priority for Hertfordshire.
“Ultimately, any additional costs, officer time and administrative resources are funded by local taxpayers. The County Council should concentrate on improving the services that many existing residents already struggle to access.”
