Residents, community groups and volunteers from across the Borough are coming together to create a stunning display of remembrance at Cheshunt Old Pond this autumn.
Thousands of handcrafted poppies set to transform the fountain ahead of Remembrance Day.
The initiative, led by members of the Cheshunt & District Royal British Legion Club, aims to create a striking installation featuring around 5,000 knitted and crocheted poppies.
The display is the result of months of community effort, with contributions from knitting groups, local organisations, families, friends and individual residents from Cheshunt and surrounding areas.
The project has been funded by the Cheshunt & District Royal British Legion Club, demonstrating the club's continued commitment to supporting remembrance activities within the community.
The poppies have been generously created by a wide range of community groups and individuals, including the Cheshunt Royal British Legion Club Knit and Natter Group, Waltham Cross knitting groups, U3A members, Slimming World knitters and many other local residents who wanted to play a part in marking this important occasion.
Installation of the display is scheduled to take place on 22 October, with the poppies remaining in place until 12 November, providing a moving focal point for reflection and remembrance.
This is one of a number of Remembrance Day activities taking place across the Borough. Parades will be held in Cheshunt, Goffs Oak and Hoddesdon on Remembrance Sunday, 8 November, with Council officers working alongside the Royal British Legion, Goffs Oak Community Association and Love Hoddesdon to help ensure the events run smoothly and safely. Last year, the three parades attracted approximately 6,700 people.
In Hoddesdon, poppy displays will also be installed in front of St Catherine and St Paul's Church and by the War Memorial, creating further focal points for reflection.
On 11 November, a service will take place in Cedars Park at 10.30am, organised by the Friends group, offering another opportunity for the community to come together in remembrance.
Councillor Dee Hart, Cabinet Member for Housing and Community, said:
This wonderful display is a testament to the strength of our community and the deep respect that residents across the Borough have for those who have served their country.
Thousands of individually crafted poppies, each made with care, will come together to create a powerful symbol of remembrance. I would like to thank everyone who has contributed their time, creativity and dedication to this remarkable project.
