Council invites the community to join the ‘Adopt-a-‘Street’ scheme and take part in the Great British September Clean

This September, residents, schools and businesses are invited to join the Council and take part in the Great British September Clean.

The aim of this annual nation-wide event, which runs from 11-27 September, is to encourage communities to come together and to work with their councils, taking pride in the area they live.

Broxbourne Council’s ‘adopt-a-street’ programme does exactly this and since 2016 has coordinated an annual litter pick in support of Keep Britain Tidy’s campaign.

Inevitably, this year the event will look different to previous years. However, people can still provide their support to help make Broxbourne an even better place to live and work by carrying out individual or small, socially distanced group litter picks. It is a great opportunity to get outdoors in a safe environment and make a difference.

The campaign runs for two weeks in September and the Council’s ‘adopt-a-street’ programme runs all year. There are currently 122 volunteers assisting the Council to keep the Borough clean in between the regular, scheduled cleanses. The Council would like to thank each of them for their continued support, particularly during the last six unprecedented months, and to invite others to register with the scheme.

Councillor David Holliday, Cabinet Member for Environment and Regeneration said:

This is a great opportunity to get involved and show you care about the place you live. Join the many volunteers in Broxbourne and across the country who work to keep the place they live clean and tidy.

To find out how to get involved in the event, whether that’s by pledging to pick up litter in the course of a daily routine, or organising a small group clean-up of up to six people, email streetcleansing@broxbourne.gov.uk or sign up to the Council’s volunteer programme here.
