What you can do
The Council may be able to assist if you have to leave your home due to a relationship breakdown. Before contacting the Council you should talk to your partner or spouse about staying where you are.
Things you can do to prevent your homelessness:
- If you and your partner are ending a private rented tenancy, you can look for a new property to rent via sites such as Zoopla and Rightmove
- If you and your partner jointly own a property, you can look for new accommodation with the proceeds of sale either via purchasing or private renting
- Identify any other places where you have a right to live
- Use the online benefits calculator to help you find out what benefits you may be able to claim
- Visit your local Job Centre where you can get help with benefits, finding work and getting other support
- Register with Homefinder UK
After you have done this, if you still need more help and support you can ask the Council for assistance.
