You have been asked to leave by your partner or spouse

What you can do

The Council may be able to assist if you have to leave your home due to a relationship breakdown. Before contacting the Council you should talk to your partner or spouse about staying where you are.

Things you can do to prevent your homelessness:

  • If you and your partner are ending a private rented tenancy, you can look for a new property to rent via sites such as Zoopla and Rightmove
  • If you and your partner jointly own a property, you can look for new accommodation with the proceeds of sale either via purchasing or private renting
  • Identify any other places where you have a right to live
  • Use the online benefits calculator to help you find out what benefits you may be able to claim
  • Visit your local Job Centre where you can get help with benefits, finding work and getting other support
  • Register with Homefinder UK

After you have done this, if you still need more help and support you can ask the Council for assistance.
