Choice Based Lettings, also known as social housing, is the system that allows applicants on the Housing Register to express an interest in properties advertised each week.
The homes in the Council's Choice Based Lettings scheme are:
- owned by housing associations
- normally let to local residents in housing need who are registered on the Council’s Housing Register
To express an interest:
- is a way to tell the Council you would like to live in a certain property
- does not involve a deposit or any money
The scheme the Council uses is called HomeOption.
Expressing an interest in properties
If you are registered on the Council's Housing Register, you can express an interest in properties you are eligible for.
The successful applicant is the person who:
- has the highest points
- who best meets the criteria for the property
You can express an interest in properties by logging into HomeOption.
Shortlist and offers
The Council will review the shortlist of all eligible applicants for the properties on the Wednesday after the bidding cycle closes.
If you are in a good position for a property, the Council will:
- contact you and let you know
- forward your details to the Housing Association who will contact you directly to arrange a viewing of the property
Once you have viewed the property, the Housing Association will normally offer the property to you. However, it does reserve the right to decline any nomination made.
If the offer is accepted, you as the applicant will be required to pay four weeks rent in advance to the Housing Association.
You are encouraged to save money whilst you are on the Housing Register as if an offer is accepted, you as the applicant will be required to pay up to four weeks rent in advance to the Housing Association.
