Temporary accommodation

Offer of temporary accommodation

If you have made a homelessness application, a member of the Housing Solution team will assess your circumstances and check the evidence you provided.

If you are owed a homelessness duty (prevention or relief duty), you may be offered temporary accommodation to relieve your homelessness. The team will contact you directly to discuss the offer of temporary accommodation and arrange meeting to complete paperwork and sign ups.

Depending on availability of accommodation you may be offered accommodation outside of the Borough.

If you refuse a suitable offer of accommodation our homeless duty to you may be discharged.

During your stay in temporary accommodation, you may be asked to move to a different temporary accommodation for different reasons - such as returning property to landlord, major repair works, and change in your household make up. If you refuse you may have your homeless duty discharged.

Time in temporary accommodation

Temporary accommodation is a temporary solution to solve your homelessness, and is not a permanent home. The Council is not able to tell you how long you will be in temporary accommodation for.

During your time in temporary accommodation, you will be expected to engage with your housing officer and other support staff to find permanent accommodation available to you. This may be private rented or social housing. If you do not actively search for permanent accommodation, you may face eviction.
