Listed buildings

Buildings or monuments that are recognised as being nationally important are put on a list that is maintained and updated by the Secretary of State.

You can view the details and locations of the listed buildings and scheduled ancient monuments in the Borough by using the Council's interactive map.

Listed buildings are protected by law. Any internal or external works to them will require listed building consent from the Council. If you need to carry out work to a listed building, submit a listed building planning application form. This process can take up to eight weeks.

You may need listed building consent for any works to separate buildings within the grounds of a listed building if the structure was constructed before 1 July 1948. If you are unsure if a building needs listed building consent you should make an appointment with the Duty Planning Service.
