  • Jubilee photo competition

The leader of Broxbourne Council has launched a photo competition, encouraging the public to take submit their best snaps from celebration events within the Borough. To enter, you must be a resident of the Borough of Broxbourne, and your photographs must be taken within the Borough boundary. The winning photographer will receive two tickets to a show of their choice at the Spotlight in Hoddesdon.

Please email your photographs to communications@broxbourne.gov.uk with your name and location of the event by 30 June. Photos submitted may be used by the Council to further publicise the Borough and the Queen's Platinum Jubilee, and will be retained and stored in the Lowewood Museum archive.

  • Mayoral Debate for Secondary Schools

The Borough has an annual tradition of Mayoral debates for Secondary Schools. This year’s event will be themed around the contribution of the Monarchy. The date of this event is to be confirmed.

  • Poetry Competition

In 2016, a poetry competition was held in Broxbourne inviting local schools to celebrate the Queen’s 90th birthday. 70 submissions were made and the winning entries were published on the Council’s website. The winning entries were also sent to her majesty as a token of the Borough’s appreciation of the Queen and her reign. A similar competition will run again in 2022.

  • Dressing the Borough’s Town Centres

Union Jack bunting will be displayed in the Borough’s three town centres throughout the jubilee period.

  • Public Art Displays

Images of previous jubilees and coronations, taken from the Lowewood Museum archive, will be enlarged and displayed throughout the Borough on noticeboards, in Council facilities etc.

  • Queen’s Green Canopy

To mark the celebrations, one tree will be planted at Cedars Park and another at Jubilee Gardens in Hoddesdon. Both locations will be supported by the installation of commemorative benches with plaques.  The trees will be native species and of a reasonable size. Schools and community groups are also encouraged to plant trees and hedgerows as part of the Queen’s Green Canopy initiative – further details can be found at queensgreencanopy.org.

  • Let’s Create Jubilee

The Arts Council has announced a funding stream for creative and cultural activities themed around the Jubilee. Grants will be made between £750 and £10,000. This opportunity has been communicated to local community and voluntary groups. The application portal closes on 28 February.
