Sustainable transport and active travel

Sustainable transport

Opting for sustainable transport (such as electric vehicles and utilising public transport) will lower carbon emissions rather than the use of individual diesel and petrol vehicles which are powered by fossil fuels.

The Borough of Broxbourne Council has installed electric vehicle (EV) charge points across the Borough, including:

  • Waltham Cross High Street
  • Taverners Way in Hoddesdon
  • Windmill Lane car park, Newnham Parade and Bishops’ College in Cheshunt

These include both rapid charge and normal charge points which are suitable for any electric vehicle. The Council offices also feature charge points, as well as an EV pool fleet for its staff members. Other EV charging points in the Borough and beyond can be identified here.

Active travel

As part of the Environmental Sustainability Strategy, the Council is encouraging active travel via walking and cycling as part of the Broxbourne Local Walking and Cycling Infrastructure Plan, particularly within its schools, as well as across the Borough as a whole through an Active Travel strategy.

It has also worked alongside Hertfordshire County Council in partnership with Sustrans to improve the Walking and Cycling access to local schools in Waltham Cross. The strategy also provides more parking for bicycles, and access to routes to the Lee Valley and alongside the New River. Further details can be found here and here.

More information on cycling in the Borough can be found here.
