I would like to apply for access across the kerb to my house (a dropped kerb)

Costs and timescales

Costs

In addition to the non-refundable £109 application fee, the indicative construction costs of a dropped kerb are estimated between £155 - £180 per sq m. This equates to approximately £1860-£2160 for a standard 12 sq m. This does not include the costs of creating the driveway on your property.

Please note, the construction costs may differ from the initial estimate and are in addition to the non-refundable £109 application fee, the potential application and legal fees of a planning application and/or Section 278 Agreement, and the level of traffic management required by the individual site.

Timescales

The timescales for constructing a dropped kerb depend on the:

  • size of the proposed kerb
  • temporary traffic management required
  • the requirement for a planning application or Section 278 Agreement
  • contractor’s availability

When applying for a dropped kerb, you should consider the following timescales:

  • Application made and fee receipted
  • Within two weeks of receipt, the application is acknowledged and added to the list of dropped kerb applications
  • Within six - eight weeks of receipt, the Council will inform you about the outcome of your application. If your application is successful, you will receive the estimated construction cost on approval
  • Your cost estimate will be valid for four months
  • Once the Council receives payment of the cost estimate, the Council aims to complete your dropped kerb within six weeks.
