Retail rate relief

At the Autumn Statement the Chancellor announced the introduction of the new business rates relief scheme for retail, hospitality and leisure properties. The scheme will provide eligible, occupied retail, hospitality and leisure properties with a 75% relief up to a cash cap limit of £110,000 per business. The relief will automatically be applied to those properties that are eligible to receive it.

You could qualify for a retail rate discount if your business is a:

  • shop
  • restaurant, café, bar or pub
  • cinema or music venue
  • hospitality or leisure business - for example, a gym, a spa, a casino or a hotel

The discount is automatically applied to those properties that are eligible to receive it. If you don't have the retail discount on your bill and you think you are eligible you can apply for the discount using the Council's online form at the bottom of this page. You will need:

  • your business rates account number and rateable value –  you can find this on your bill in the top right-hand corner
  • your business details
  • the date of occupation

Businesses may choose to opt-out of receiving the retail discount 2023/24 by providing the Council with notification of their request to refuse support for each of the properties they wish to decline the discount on. Email nndr@broxbourne.gov.uk with the relevant information
