Services from Hertfordshire County Council

Adult social services

Hertfordshire County Council provides support for older, disabled and neurodiverse people, their families and carers.

This can be found the the form of services and equipment to make life easier, as well as more regular care and support in a range of options - these include long-term care homes, short breaks and supported living.

Support available includes Disabled Facilities Grants, which help people who are disabled adapt their home so they can continue to live there. Grants can help to fund a stair lift, ramps, bathroom or kitchen adaptations, and more. Grants are means-tested, and managed by the Hertfordshire Home Improvement Agency, working on behalf of Broxbourne Borough Council. The Agency will advise on eligibility and send someone to your house to assess your needs. The Agency then oversees all projects from design to delivery.

Through HCC you can also apply for care and support, and the County Council can help to arrange and pay for some people's care. If they cannot pay for your care, the Council can help you to find the support you need.

As well as supporting older, disabled and neurodiverse people, their is help and guidance for their carers too. If you help an adult friend or family member who couldn't manage without your support, you're a carer - even if you're not paid. There is also specialist support for young carers.

Go to the Hertfordshire County Council website for a carer's assessment if you support an adult, or Parent carer's assessment if your child has SEND.
